OUR STORIES

At Catholic Charities Access Points, Compassion Leads the Way

Working in close partnership with the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH), The Catholic Charities Bayview and Mission Access Points provides support to families that allows them to stay housed. Access Points provide screening for housing eligibility and personalized problem-solving that helps families stay together and move toward safe, permanent housing. In 2024 alone, these Access Points proudly served 4,150 clients, and 87% of families discharged have moved to permanent housing.

These are not just statistics. Rather, they reflect the real lives touched by the compassionate work of Catholic Charities. Many of the team members at Bayview and Mission Access Points connect with the communities they serve through shared lived experiences with housing insecurity. The organization’s commitment to compassion and partnership is far more than just a mission statement.

“Every day we’re working with folks that are going through suffering in whatever form and it’s our job to not just do things for them but do things with them- to walk alongside them through this experience and really accompany them to recovery, healing, and housing.”

Site Manager Jack Radanovich recalls a mother trying to navigate a shelter system that couldn’t accommodate her needs. Through dedicated case management and tailored support, she was matched with a permanent supportive housing unit. “I remember during the unit intake appointment feeling her baby’s little hand grasp around my pinky finger and I thought wow- I was part of your life even before it began with your family.” Running into her walking down Mission Street long after she has been provided housing, Jack says “She looked so full of life, and she had a different vitality- it was so beautiful”

Personal testimonies like this embody the core values of Bayview and Mission Access Points, where every interaction is about making a genuine connection and respecting each individual’s story. “Every day we’re working with folks that are going through suffering in whatever form and it’s our job to not just do things for them but do things with them- to walk alongside them through this experience and really accompany them to recovery, healing, and housing.”

Family homelessness is a complex, systemic challenge that there often are simply not resources to immediately resolve. Families come to Access Points burdened by immediate crises and with limited access to support. Yet, through heartfelt commitment to each family, Bayview and Mission Access Points provide tailored housing solutions that respect the dignity of every household.
