The Carl Gellert and Celia Berta Gellert Foundation Adult Day Services San Mateo County

Reliable and affordable alternative to in-home care or residential facilities for seniors

Our program offers non-medical personal care, supervision, and assistance.

Our center is a licensed facility designed to help frail seniors and older adults with disabilities who may be suffering from memory loss or other cognitive or physical limitations improve or maintain their mental and physical health, thus preventing their premature institutionalization/placement into a higher level of care facilities.

Since 1975, Catholic Charities Adult Day Services has offered a sensible and affordable option for care and companionship during the day to residents of San Mateo County. In addition to providing a broad range of recreational and social activities, our program offers non-medical personal care, supervision, and assistance with activities of daily living to enhance the quality of life for those living with these conditions through interaction, socialization and active engagement.

Our goal is to create an environment that respects the dignity and life experience of those who might otherwise become isolated and are in need of some social interaction and stimulating activities.

What We Do

Independence and Dignity

Catholic Charities Adult Day Services San Mateo is a licensed program providing a safe, supervised, therapeutic, and friendly environment for seniors and adults with cognitive or physical impairments who experience losses in physical function, memory, or social interaction. Through mentally and physically stimulating activities, the program enhances participants’ quality of life and increases their independence while providing support and much needed relief to family caregivers. Adult day care centers provide a reliable and affordable alternative compared to in-home care or placement in higher level of care residential facilities.

We help their families keep them in their own homes and communities as long as it is safe for them to do so. We support caregivers who may face one of their most challenging roles, often with little experience or training.

Our program is situated in a bright, spacious room bordered by an enclosed courtyard shaded by a majestic oak tree. With no more than 26-28 participants per day, we offer a range of fun and stimulating activities, the opportunity to make new friends, and an environment of warmth and respect created by our experienced staff.

We are conveniently located on a residential street in downtown San Carlos,  just one block from the shops and restaurants along Laurel Street.

“I fell in love with everybody there, the clients, the staff and the volunteers. The moment they would see my father coming they would run out the door to greet him. It made him smile.”
