20 Years of Serving with Love at the Lima Center

There is a special feeling that permeates the Lima Center at St. Dominic’s parish in San Francisco. People come to the center for refuge. They come for a hot meal or a shower. People come to the Lima Center to be loved by someone who cares.

The Lima Center was opened in 2005 by Sister Anne Bertain as a place where individuals experiencing homelessness could eat and relax in a dignified way. Twenty years later, the Center remains an important and vital pillar in the community operating in partnership between St. Dominic’s, St. Ignatius, and Catholic Charities of San Francisco.

For its 20th Anniversary celebration in April, current and former guests gathered for a beautiful meal in honor of the place that has meant so much to each of their lives—a touching way to honor such a vibrant and loving community of people.
