Remembering Pope Francis

As we mourn the news of Pope Francis’ passing, let us remember and reflect on his profound respect for humankind, his love for God’s creation, and his deep commitment to the poor and vulnerable.

From the moment he was elected Pope, Francis showed the world that to be Catholic means to be humble, to be merciful, and to follow in Christ’s footsteps through service and love.

When I recall Pope Francis, and the impact he has had on this world, I will remember the many images of him humbly washing the feet of strangers, symbolizing Christ’s unconditional love for us all, His infinite mercy.

As we honor the first Pope named for St. Francis of Assisi, a great saint and the namesake of our city, I pray that you will find a few moments today to reflect on the life of Pope Francis, and his many examples of faithfulness, hope, and love. May we all walk with hearts filled with the light of God’s grace in service as Pope Francis has guided us through the example of his life.

“I encourage you to give the best of yourself, to live every moment of existence as one grace, to come out of anonymity and make your life an offer for the beautiful, for the good.”
– Pope Francis
