OUR STORIES

AT CCCYO Transportation, Our Team is Driven by Purpose

We had the opportunity to ask our colleague Julian Moreno some questions about the great work being done over at CCCYO Transportation.

The Transportation team has been providing school bus services to public, private, and parochial schools and other youth organizations for more than 45 years. Often serving behind the scenes, CCCYO bus drivers are committed to the safety of our students, and are an integral part of the community.

Last year, CCCYO Transportation transported more than 1,000 children to school each day, drove 25 daily routes services serving 13 different school, and provided 2,378 chartered trips. We are grateful for the Transportation team and the important work they do every day.

Can you talk about the kind of work you do at CCCYO Transportation? What does your day to day look like, and what does the experience working at CCSF mean to you?

At CCCYO Transportation my work is dynamic, engaging, always changing, and very fun. As CCCYO Transportation’s Office Manager, every day I deal firsthand with our customers on the phone, via email, or in person if I am driving a route or a field trip. As the Office Manager, it is my primary responsibility to be the first point of contact for our customers and drivers and to schedule all routes and field trips every week to make sure our drivers know what they are doing and that our customers know that we will be there for them. Finding creative ways to support our customers’ transportation needs and specific requests can be a challenge at times, but the support I get from all the drivers, mechanics, and office staff in Transportation makes it possible to get through each day successfully. It has meant the world to me to work for CCCYO Transportation because I have always been drawn to environments that aspire to support the common good.

Without mentioning any names or identifying information, can you talk about any clients or experiences that had an impact on you?

The days where I get to drive a home to school route have been some of the most impactful days in my time at CCCYO Transportation. It is a tremendous responsibility that we take on by transporting the world’s most valuable cargo, our children, to and from different locations around the Bay Area. Seeing kids enjoy themselves on the bus, engage in spirited conversation with their classmates, and enjoy the privilege of just being kids is an awesome experience and it is comforting knowing that they all have an implicit trust in you, the driver, to get them to their destination safely.

What’s something that happened at work recently that made you smile or find meaning? What aspect of your job do you love the most?

I drove a route for a few weeks this school year and what made me smile was seeing students who started off shy and reserved in their interactions with me, slowly everyday began to open up more and more and seemed excited to not just ride the bus, but also say good morning to me. Moments like that remind me that our work really does matter. What I love most about my job is knowing that whether I’m behind the wheel or at my desk, I am able to support and coordinate efforts to transport children in a manner that the schools, parents, and the kids themselves trust and enjoy.

Can you talk about the idea of hope? What does hope mean to you, and how would you say that CCCYO transportation offer hope to clients?

Hope is the belief that tomorrow can be better than today, even when the present feels uncertain or difficult. To me, hope means having something reliable to hold onto – a sense that progress, safety, and stability are possible. I believe that CCCYO Transportation offers hope by providing consistency and care, ensuring that our customers can depend on safe, respectful, and timely service. Through that reliability, we at CCCYO Transportation give our customers confidence that their students can get to and from school and whenever they are headed on their field trips safely and with great care.

What do you wish more people knew about CCCYO Transportation?

First, I want people to know that we no longer are in Daly City. In the Summer of 2025, we moved locations and are now based in San Francisco in the Dogpatch neighborhood. Second, I want people to know about the amount of people and organizations that we serve in a school year. We transport over 1000 students from over 130 different organizations every school year!

Anything else that you would like to add about your experience working at Catholic Charities?

Working at Catholic Charities is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Since graduating from college in 2020, I have gained professional experience in a variety of work environments, and I can confidently say that working for Catholic Charities, particularly with CYO Transportation, has been the most rewarding and enjoyable experience of my young career.

What should someone do if they want to learn more about the program?

Come visit us at our yard and say hello! I think the best way to get to know us at Transportation is to come visit us and see our busses, meet our drivers, and get a sense of the warmth and community we bring to each other and our customers.
