A Lenten Message

Dear Friends,

This Lent, let us reflect on the teachings of love as we grow in our dedication to serve those in need. At Catholic Charities, our offering of service provides meaning as we embody Christ’s love through our work, meeting the needs of vulnerable members of our community, the marginalized and those who are suffering.

Discipleship is more than prayer and fasting, it is an invitation to provide care, humility, compassion, and respect for our neighbors inspired by the love and light in our hearts. Each one of us holds the light of love within ourselves, and we can recognize the magnificence of the light of Divine within each person that we serve.

During Lent, I am reminded that our work at Catholic Charities allows us to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, who spent his life healing and caring for the sick, the poor and those outcast from society. Our work reflects a collective contribution to building a compassionate world grounded in social justice and is a spiritual practice that weaves together meaning and value in my life.

Together at Catholic Charities, we strive to reflect the light of Lent centered in our hearts as we achieve social change and renewal through our service, our love and our sacrifice. This is an important time for overcoming obstacles and achieving the blessings of the magnificence of light and love in our hearts. Our service is a beautiful treasure, and an opportunity for grace that inspires me each and every day.

With peace to all of you,

Ellen Hammerle, Ph.D.
