Spring Projects

Spring Children’s Gardening Kits

At Catholic Charities, every child is valued. We aim to break the cycle of poverty by disrupting it with opportunity. Our early childhood education, after school, residential, and summer programs embrace each child where they are and expose them to exciting literacy, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), and educational opportunities that spark their desire to learn, explore, and grow.

We nurture the unlimited potential of every child and help them see beyond the limitations of parental, income, housing, and food instability. We use evidence-based curricula to develop resilience and skills that help bridge the achievement gap and give each child a sense of accomplishment and value. For children who have experienced deep trauma, we provide intensive therapeutic residential care to foster healing, restore trust, and create hope.

Individual Volunteering

San Mateo

Children must be 16 or older to volunteer unaccompanied by an adult and have a signed parental permission slip. Children under 16 must volunteer with a parent or a supervising adult (with a signed parental permission slip) and opportunities vary depending on the program.

Current Opportunities:

Snack Packs and Toiletry Kits Project: Healthy snack packs and toiletry kits for homeless families. Every day Catholic Charities staff goes out on the streets to help homeless families find housing. To make their lives a bit more bearable, our outreach teams bring food and supplies. We want to make this project easy.  Assemble the kits on your own, or as a group project!

Senior  Dance Helper: Lend a hand setting up and keeping the party flowing at our regular second Friday senior dance at the OMI Senior Center at 65 Beverly Street. Dancing not required, having fun mandatory.

Making Kits for the Homeless: Pack survival kits for the homeless. We will be stuffing backpacks with snacks, t-shirts, and toiletries for families and individuals who are homeless. All materials are included.   Must fill out a registration form to participate.
